Yesterday the ladies of the Miramar Golf Club played — in delightful wea-, ther — the bogey competition organised in aid of the fund. In the senior division, Miss M. Wheeler was 1 down on bogey, and in the junior division Mrs. Liddle returned the excellent score of 5 up. Other cards were : Miss Duthie I and M.iss M'Kellar, 2 down; and Mrs. | Watkins, 3 down. Patriotism and self-sacrifice — the one really includes the other — are widespread just now, and the children are by no means the least enthusiastic. The Christchurch camp was visited a week ago by a few children — four girls and a boy — from a country school, under the charge of a teacher. They were 25a2 5ai 'ticularly interested in one tent and its occupants, and later on they all sent cakes to the ! men. The cakes were accompanied by j the most fascinating notes. One explained that the small boy had been allowed to come because he had made most "sackrifises," for he had gone without jam and sugar for some time in order to save for the Empire. The little girls had saved their tram fares and walked to school, and had thus gained their quota for the cause. One letter, sweetly unsupervised, began "My dear Hero," and another expressed the fervent hope that the reader "would win the fight." r J?he men in the tent were quite touched with the childish letters, and are treasuring them.
