A BANKRUPT SYRIAN

DISCHARGE GRANTED.

In the report of the Bankruptcy Court proceedings in yesterday's Evening Post regarding the application by Joseph Saba, a Syrian hawker, for his discharge in bankruptcy, the usual word "Proceeding" at the end of the report was mad vertently omitted, which made it appear that the report was complete and that the discharge had not been granted, which was contrary to the real facts of the case. As reported in The Post, the examination tof the applicant showed that ever since .his bankruptcy seven years ago he had suffered on and off from ill-health, and had frequently been in the hospital at Masterton, and a fel-low-countryman had promised, if he could obtain his discharge, to give him financial assistance to enable him to start hawking again. The Judge (his Honour Air. Justice Hosking) suggested that possibly the applicant might be able to pay his creditors 2s 6d in the £, but Mr. P. J. O'Regan (appearing for the bankrupt), after conferring with his client, intimated that the latter could not see his way to adopt the suggestion on account of the 'bad state of his health. Saba had pointed out, said Mr. O'Regan, that he would be required to purchase a couple of horses and a conveyance, and his creditors, thinking he was doing well, might bring him before the Court. His Honour remarked that he did not think any good could come of suspending the order any further, asiit had already been suspended for seven years. Considering the state of the applicant's health it was better that he should have a chance to earn his own living. The discharge was granted. [Mr. O'Regan has written to The Post complaining of the wrong impression conveyed by the, seemingly complete report of the case in last evening's Post, but the facts as stated in the above t>aragr, aph cover the points made by our correspondent.]
