ACCOUNTANTS' INSTITUTE

The annual meeting of the Incorporated Institute of Accounta-uts of New Zealand was held in Wellington yesterday afternoon. The vice-president (Mr. Wm. M'Culloch, of Napier) was in the chair, and twenty other members were in attendance. The annual report and balance-sheet were adopted. The council stated that ' the total number of members on the register at the end of the year was 367 (199 fellows and 168 associates). The following were, during the year, admit" ted to membership by virtue of their having passed the examination conducted by the New Zealand University, on behalf of the New Zealand Society of Accountant* :— Messrs. F. Prideaux, . G . C. Boyes, D.' G. Johnston, Thos. Auton, J. W. Smeaton. Representations are being made to the Attorney-General to include the institute in the regulations as a body whose members can undertake the auditing of solicitors' trusts accounts. The accumulated funds of the institute now amount to £873 12s 7d. The following were elected members of the council :— Messrs. C. P. Powles (Wellington), S. G. Chambers (Auckland), W. S. Newburgh (Chmtchurch), Jas. Brown (Dunedin), and \V. M'Cul* loch (Napier). Mr. Jas. Macintosh was elected auditor. At tho council meeting held a-fter the annual meeting, Mr. W. M'Culloch was elected president for the present > year and Mr. S. G. Chambers vice-president. Messrs. C. P. Powles and C. D. Morpeth were re-elected treasurer and secretary respectively.
