(PRESS ASSOCIATION.) LOSS OF THE AMPHION
TWO DISTINCT EXPLOSIONS. ' A SURVIVOR'S STORY. (Received August 13, 10 a.m.) LONDON, 12th August. A survivor of the British scout cruiser Amphion, which struck a mine, states that there were two distinct explosions. The first tore the bows and the second ripped up the vessel's side. Many men perished while asleep. There was no panic. The men went to the lifeboats, putting in the wounded first. Before the Amphion sank the magazine exploded, and fragments of wreckage killed three survivors wh6 had reached rescuing destroyers.
