LOWER HUTT BOROUGH

COUNCIL MEETING. The Lower Hutt Borough Council met last evening, when tho following wore present: — The Mayor (Mr. H. Baldwin), and Councillors Hobbs, Ball, Parsonage, Brasell, Kempthorne, Meldrum, and Hodgins. A letter was received from Mr. T. H. Norris, who asked if the council was prepared to find now posts for the repairing of the dividing fence between his property and the Recreation Ground on condition that he found railings and labour. The request was accedea to. The Health Inspector notified a case of diphtheria in Brunswick-street, and a case of scarlet fever in Rata-street. Mr. W. J. Roche (engineer) was appointed billiard-room inspector in the borough. In the course of his usual report, the Engineer (Mr W. J. Roche) stated that extensive repairs had been done on WainuiHill, also to tho Rand wick-road, especially near the Hutt Park. Most of the other borough roads had also had attention. Ho recommended the council to hire tho road'grader now used by the Hutt County Council in order to test its capability. If satisfied with the maohine, with which he was favourably impressed, the council could consider the advisability of getting ona next year. Tho main road between Pretoria-street and the N.I.C. Stores was now receiving attention. Metal was being crushed and spread and in duo conrse would be rolled. Mr. Roche also reported at length upon the committee's inspection of the various streets in the borough. In conclusion, he stated that two permits for house sewerage connections had been issued under the Drainage and Sanitary By-law, making tho total number to date 866. The. report was adopted.
