Varney, general secrotary of the being the speaker, and Mr. Birkenshaw, of H.M.S. Pyramus, the soloist. Talcing as his topic " The Call to a Mighty Work," Mr. Varnoy said that while great truths eoivarning the nature and existence of God had been to our forefathers veritable signposts along _ the pathway of life, pre-sent-day criticism tended to blur and obscure; honco the atmosphere of laxity, the widespread cult of "having a good time," the popularity of ail ideal both lovv _ and mean, the lack of fibre and spirit so finely cxamplcd by OapUin Scott and bis companions in their last Polar march. Christ, declared the speaker, was the one. corrective, and the call came to all men to gain power through purpose; to win men by translating God . into daily life; to make Christ visible in our world 'through our bodies.
