The steamer City of Sydney has arrived at San Francisco with the rescued captain, eight of the crew, and two babies, children of the captain, from the wrecked schooner Mokonies. They were marooned for five months at Clepperton Island, off the Mexican coast. The party anticipated being rescued by a Mexican gunboat from Tampico, but the Constitutionalists captured ana sank her. There is a small Mexican colony on the island. When food ran low throe of the crew started for the mainland, arriving after seventeen days of great suffering from shortness of food and water. The cruiser Cleveland rescued the party.
