MASTERTON MATTERS
• — ♦ (BI TELEGRAPH— SPECIAL TO TIIB POST.) MASTERTON, This Day. Mr. W. Caselberg presided at the monthly meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust last evening. The Deputy Public Trustee wrote, stating that the interest on sinking funds had been increased to 4£ per centum. The question of placing a new fibre plaster ceiling in the Town Hall was left in the hands of the Leasing Committee. The following educational grants, totalling £436 11s, were approved : — Technical School, £100; District High School, £93 4s; St. Patrick's School, £31 8s; Lansdowne School, £54 9s ; Fernridge School, £25; Te Ore Ore School, £2 10s. Matriculation grants : G. Saker, £30 ; M. Ewart, £20 ; V. Hunter, £10 : 0. Sutherland, £10; J. Sellar, £10; G. Waddington, £10. Senior scholarships: L, Welsh, £10; E. Madeley, £10; W. Candy, £10; F. Marshall, £10. A grant of £20 to augment the salaries of teachers in the secondary department at the District High School was also authorised. The estimates for the year were passed, and amongst the ordinary items of expenditure a sum of £200 was' set aside for the furtherance of higher education in this district, making the fund for this purpose amount to JB3OO. The money will be invested until suah time as it is required. The committee <5f the Masterton District High School and other schools in the district intend planting a. considerable number of trees on Arbor Day. A donation of 1000 young plants has been made to tho Masterton School. The Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Society decided last evening to hold two shows instead of three in each year. The shows "will now be held in the spring and autumn. The Masterton Harrier Club opened the season on Thursday with a five-mile ciOßS«country run. Tho club piomises to havfi a hi£^ Bucgeasful season.
