♦ Last night, though not frosty, was one of the coldest of the season in Wellington, but milder weather and sunshine were our portion to-day. Squilly and wet conditions prevailed in the western d,istrictß of the Domhr'on and in the southern parts' of tho South Island. Elsewhere tho weather has been changeable, with scattered showers. Heavy rain has fallen in Westland, and freshes were reported in the rivers'. The Weather Bureau forecast is for changeable and squally weather, uccomparied by heavy showers in njost parts of the country, with southerly wincls, strong to gale, prevailing.
