Remy Castaings, son of peasants «ti ! St. Etienne, near Bayonne, became de^ mented, and was ordered to hospital. The parents, believing that Remy hack 1 cast a spell over the family, resolved/, before complying with the order to • crucify him by crossing hte arms above, his head and fastening him to hia bed? where he was forcibly held, struggling, for three days, until he died of suffocation. Anotlnet son, Henri, was seized witto dementia, and the parents killed a dogv and cat and burned the bodies, to exorcise the evil spirit. The authorities sent Henri to an asylum.
