MUTUAL IMPROVEMENT SOCIETY
The fortnightly meeting of the Thovncion Methodist Mutual Improvement Society was held in the Molesworth-street Schoolroom. The president (Rev.' G. S. Cook) presided. The meeting took tho form of elocutionary competitions. All the events were well contested. Mi\ Kennedy acted in the capacity of adjudicator 1 . Musical items were contributed by Miss D. M. Clarke and the Rev. G. S* Cook gave several humorous readings. The results of the various competitions were as follow: — Ladius recitation, Miss V. Clark 1, Miss L. Nicholas 2 ; ladies' sight-reading, Miss V. Clark 1. Miss Jenkins 2 ; men's recitation, Mr. Hibberd 1, Messrs Clark arid Coad 2 ; men's impromptu address, Mr. Jenkins 1, Mr. Hibberd 2. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Kennedy fo,* his services.
