CITY COUNCIL MEETING The City Council held its fortnightly meeting last evening. The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) presided, and the council was represented by Councillors T. C A. Hislop, It. A. Wiight. E. Tregear, M. Luckic. W. J. Thompson, H. Buddie, G. Frost, J. Godber, E. Fletchei\ J. E. Fitzgerald. A. 11. Hindmarsh, L. M'Kenzie, and W. 11. P. Barber. The City Engineer was instructed to report as to the advisability of raising the level of Everton-terrace bridge. In tho event of the report not recommending this woik, longitudinal planking is to be placed on the bridge at an eistimated cost of £55. The steps between Wallace and Wright streets are to be put in order, and a reet-plat % 6 and seat provided half-way up the steps, at a cost of a-bout £5. It was decided not to accede to the request of the Victoria- Bowling Club for a reduction in the water account, owing to a leakage through a corroded pipe. Petitioners for improvements at St. Mary-street are to be advised that improvement works will be carried out during the present year. Suggestions for an alteration in the Seatoun tramway time-table were referred to ,the Miramar Borough Council. In reply to the complaint of the Berhampore Municipal Electors' Association, as to the withdrawal of the Duppaetr«et cars between the hours of 8 and 9 in the morning, the council announced that under the new time-table extra car 3 would be run between the hours stated. The tramway poles in Manners-street are to be altered in accordance with the arrangement come to between the Tram- | ways Board and the Post and Telegraph Department. Applicants for the erection of lamps at tha road from the end of Patssell-terrace «outh to Buckley-road are to be informed that their request cannot be conceded. The sum of £100 is to be placed on the reserves estimates to instal threeregistering turnstiles for the Basin Reserve gates The Petone District High School Committee is to be informed, in reply to its request that some protection should be placed on the side of the new Hutt pipe bridge, that the City Council will be prepared to entev into joint liability with the Petone Borough Council for such work. The "OUtlying Districts Committee reported having received a communication f rom^ the Roseneath and Oriental - Bay Municipal Association, asking for the construction of footpaths in the district. The committee recommended that some provision be made in tins year's estimates for the work, and that the association be informed accordingly. , The committee has referred the request of. the Vogeltown Ratepayers' Association for improvements to the approach to Hutcheson-road to the City Engineer for a report as to the advisability of altering and widening the approach, and extending the Wallace-street tramway. The council adopted the reports and recommendations. The formation of a low level footpath at. Danube-street, Island Bay. was authorised. The offer of Messrs. Palliser and Jone3 to convey to the council a 20ft strip of land, being part of section 201, Graftonroad, and an Bft strip of land, being part of section 108, Roaeneftth terrace, in order to provide access from Roseneath to Hataitai, was accepted.
