At a meeting of directors of the Bank of New Zealand, held to-day, Mr. Harold Beauchamp was re-elected chairman of the board for the ensuing financial year. The Right Hon. W. F. Massey re- i turned from the South this morning. The Hon. J. Allen is at Hamilton, the Hon. W. H. Herries at Cambridge, the Hon. Dr. Pomare at Huntly, and the Hon. R. 11. Rhodes at Lawrence. The other Cabinet Ministers are Wellington. The Hon. F, M. B. Fisher will leave on Sunday for Auckland, where he will confer with representative shipowners in reference to tho Three Kings , danger. Mr. J. M. O'Reilly, who, for the past three months, has been acting as Collector of Customs at Rarotonga is due back in Wellington to-day. General Godley, Commandant of the Defence Forces, returned from Te Awamutu this morning, after participating in the Ornkan celebrations. The Rev, Father Cre&gh,' C.SS.R., of ' the local Redemptorist Monastery, has been appointed Superior of the Redemptorisfc Monastery at Perth, W. A,, and will leave for Australia on the 9th inst. Mr. A. Stott, who is leaving Wellington to take up his residence in Auckland, was presented with a travelling outfit by the Selwyg Football Club, of which he has been a member for the past six years. The deneral Manager of Railways (Mr. E. H. Ililey) is visiting Palmerston North to-day to meet the Borough Council and the Chamber of Commerce and discuss various matters concerning local railway improvements. Mr. W. H. Connelly is at present in Wellington making arrangements for the American Musical Burlesque Company's season, which commences on Easter Saturday night. _ The Comedy "A Day at the Races" will be the attraction. The Rev. Father E. A. Kelly, C.SS.R., arrived from Sydney yesterday. For the last twelve months he has been engaged in giving at Perth and Ballarat. Hn will be stationed at the liedemptorist Monastery at Mount St. Gerard. Mr. S. .T. Davys left Oamaru last week to come to Wellington, where he will practise the dental profession in partnership with Dr. N. James. Before leaving Oamaru, Mr. Davys was entertained by a large gathering of citizens and presented with a purse of sovereigns, in recognition of the services he had given to the public as a leader in amateur theatricals, ancl an ( enthusiastic member of the swimming and Easter regatta committees. News has been received in Wellington of the death of Dr. Abiathar Wall, a prominent anti-vivisectionist, at his residence, Streatham Hill, London, on 20th January, _ The late Dr. Wall, who has relatives in Wellington, for a long time held a position in the forefront of the battle for the just and merciful treatment of animals. In his younger days in India, when the tastes of the average young Englishman turned naturally in the direction of sport, Dr, Wall one day shot a monkey. Relating the incident to a friend, with real regret, he added :— " I shall never forget the look of sad reproach in the .eyes of that monkey. I have never shot a creature since." At the Wellington District Lands and Survey Office yesterday afternoon, Mr. M. Crompton Smith, who has been promoted to the nosition of Chief Draughtsman at the head office, was presented with an oaken Vierttfa striking clock and a leather satchel as a, token of the esteem in which he ie held by the officers. The staff also asked him to accept on. behalf of his wife a useful present in the form of a lady's handbag of unusual design. The presentations were made by Mr. T. N.
