SALVATION ARMY (YESTERDAY'S PROCEEDINGS.

The second National Congress of the Salvation Army was continued yesterday afternoon, Commissioner Richards presiding. Several papers were read, and during the intervals the Commissioner gave addresses. The principal business z-elaled to the work among the young people, all phases of the movement being dealt with. Between 4 and 5 o'clock a demonstration was given with the children themselves in the methods of their instruction. During the tea adjournment the Dunedin officers took occasion to faxewell Major Toomcr, their divisional commander. In the evening a, gathering of soldiers and exfcoldiers was held at the Citadel in Vician-etreet. Commissioner Richards, assisted by the chief secretary, presided, and over 400 persons were present. The meeting was of a- religious character, and the Commissioner gave a short epigrammatic address. The congress was continued this moming, the proceedings again being conducted in private. This afternoon the new Salvation Army Maternity Home in Kensingtonstreet was opened by the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke). To-morrow afternoon the William Booth Memorial Training College will be opened by the Hon. F. M. B. Fisher, Minister of Marine, and the congress will be brought to a conclusion in the evening with a spectacular demonstration in the Town Hall. A special letter from General Bramwell Booth, head of the Salvation Army, was read at the second National Congress of the Salvation Army yesterday. In the course of his letter, which was specially addressed to the delegates, the General stated :— "Press along the Heavenly road which runs fiom the Cross to the Crown. Let God be literally and really tho ereat God ever set before you; not merely the gifts and blessings which he holds out as the reward for faithful service, but He, the living personal God, the living Saviour, th© living lover in whose heart arise the sources of all true and abiding satisfaction to the human soul. Press on after God !"
