RECEPTION AT TIMARU. APPRECIATION OF PUBLIC BODIEfe. (BI TELEOKIPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) FAIRLIE, 31sfc March. The Prime Minister arrived at Tiinaru this afternoon, and was accorded a re ception by the Mayor of Timaru, Mr. W. Angland. After lunch, the Prime Minister left Tinwrii for Fairlie, and en route started the iifw clock arid chimes at Pleasant Point. He was entertained by the residents and accorded a. hearty reception. A deputation waited on the Prime Minister in regard to improvements at the railway station. , A deputation also waited on him at Fairlie in regard to various local matters, after which the Mackenzie County Council entertained the Prime Minister at dini'er. The health o F the Government and the Prime Minister was proposed and enthusiastically responded to. In proposing the health of the local bodies, Mr. Massey acknowledged the great good public bodies did in the country, and said he thought some iecognition should be inadu of iong sorvice rendered by individual membeia. A lar^o meeting was afterwards held in the Public Hall, wheil the Pnwu Mm ister Wti& iiccorded an attentive hearing. During hia speech, JiJ I*. Massey touched on many topics dealt with in previous speeches. He took the pledges given by himself in the Wellington 'town Hall sj.'eech. showing that in practically all instances the party's pledges had been earned out. Where not already fulfilled, it was not the party's fault, and these matters would have attention next session. Oi'iier points dealt with were land legislation, reform of the Upper House, immigration, public service reform, Native lands, eld age. veterans, and widows' pensions, finance, industrial peace, and workers' dwellings. " A motion of thanks and confidence was carried by an overwhelming majority, a Red Fed. amendment being howled down.
