LODGE MEETINGS

Arch-Druid Bro. Hawke presided over the fortnightly meeting of tho Melrose Lodge. No. 66, U.A.0.D., held in All Saints Clubroom, Kilbirnie, last evening. A fair amount of correspondence was dealt with, which led to some lengthy and interesting discussions. Visitors present included District President Bros. Beu, Vice-Arch Bro. Abel and Bro. Mailey (Pacific Lodge), and Bro. Tullett (Excel&ior Lodge). The resignation of V.A. Bro Marshall was received with regret, as also those of Treas. Bro. Raven and V.A.B. Bro. Austin, the two latter brothers resigning to enable them to take the V.A. and treasurer's chairs respectively. Bro. Middleton was elected as V.A.8. , and the three officers were duly installed by the District President, who, although only installed into his new office last week, and this being his first by-election, carried out the duties in a very able manner, Past-Arch Bro. Hall acting as M.C. It was decided to enter into the various competitions promoted by the Druids' Sports and Pastimes Association, the matter at present to beleft in the hands of the Social Committee. A challenge has been issued to the Pacific Lodge to a cricket match under the jurisdiction of the D.S. and P. A. The 12th May was submitted as a convenient date to hold the initiation ceremony in connection with the Royal Arch Chapter shield, and the 20th April was set aside as the date for the challenge for the gavil against Island Bay Lodge. Reports were received upon recent official visits to Island Bay and Pacific Lodges, and Bro. Tullett was elected as it honorary member of the lodge. After the lodge business games, etc., was indulged in. A quoit, tournament, between teams comprising Bros. Raven, Tullett. Mm-low, and Croucher and Bros, flail, Hawke Nickerson, and Jardine was played. Tho latter team led for three parts of the game, when Bro. Raven's team gradually drew away and won by 22. The Melrose Lodge in open to play any lodge in tho Wellington district.
