MAGISTRATE'S COURT
To-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court was presided over by Mr. AY. G. Riddeli, S.M. For drunkenness, Nora Nugent was fined 40s, with the alternative of seven days' imprisonment. Mary Arnold was convicted and_ discharged for drunkenness and convicted and ordered to pay 12s 6d damages on a charge of having broken a window in premises in Ghuznee-street. Mary M'llroy, a prohibited person, was fined 40s for insobriety, penalty for default being fixed at seven days' imprisonment. ' Joseph ' Johnson, an old offender, pleaded guilty to the theft of a pair of boots, valued at 12s 6d, the property of Edward Pcarce. Accused was fined 40s, with the alternative of fourteen clays' imprisonment. It was alleged against Percival Green that on the 18th March, at Nelson, he attempted to leave New Zealand whilst a maintenance order was in force and in arrears, without permission in writing of a Magistrate. The man, who was arrested on a warrant issued at Nelson, pleaded not guilty, and was remanded to appear at Nelson on the 4th April. CASES AT LOWER. HUTT. The monthly sitting of the Lower Hutt Magistrate's Court was held this morning, before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M. Messrs. Cudby, Wilkin, and Peterkin were also on the Bench. For allowing stock to wander; J. Maxwell and S. Nicholls were each fined ss, with* costs, 7s. Mrs. T. Ryan, for a similar*, oti'ence. was convicted and discharged. " Judgment by default was given in the case Richard Thompson v. A. C. Stevens, a claim for l'7s 6d, with costs (ss). In the judgment summons case Timothy Coffey v. William B. Bridger, a claim for £4 14s. defendant was ordered to liquidate the debt by 15th April. The alternative was fixed at three days' imprisonment.
