BIG FIRE ON BLENHEIM WHARF

MUCH DAMAGE DONE. (ir miorups.— pk?ss ASSocm;n.N.) BLENHEIM, This Day. A fire broke at Clouston's wharf shoitly after the steamer Blenheim left the wharf late last night. A man noticed the lire, apparently under the wharf. Tie communicated with the steamer Opawa, and an alarm was given by her whistle. The bond goods-shed and machinery shed were totally destroyed with their contents, and the wharf was partially destroyed. The shed was fully stocked with goods, including 400 sacke of barley, 200 sacks of peas, lines of wheat, oats, and chaff, and general merchandise. The machinery was valued at £1000, and a. portion of the cargo just landed by the Blenheim was also destroyed. Clouston's stock and machinery were valued at £9000, and the building and wharf at £4000. The insurances available are : — Wharf, bond, ajid goodsshed, £2250; ' machinery and implements. £610; stock, £5500— a1l in the National office. The stock includes Clouston's own goods and what the Department is responsible for. Parker and Co, lost 640 sacks of chaff, 200 bales of hay, and 200 sacks of peas. The insurance was £250 in the British Dominion office. The general individual losses iind amounts of insurance are not available. Clouston's store contained a large quantity of. benzine, and this and the spirits in bond made a great fire. It is understood that some 200 cases of benzine, 1000 sacks of barley, and spirits and tobacco are destroyed.
