MINING NEWS ROSS GOLDFIELDS.

It became necessary to slop the engine :uirl put in another bearing, a .spare" one being kept on haul. as wu ha\o had trouble in ilus respect before, and it was thought advisable to keep a spare one on hand. This work uas completed within hall iin hour, and on starting Up the engine il wa«. found that one of the pipes counseled with the town water supply, which is used for cooling the engine, had either been bioksn or become blocked. As it w.t> impossible to get cooling water to the engine quickly, it became necessary to lift the /stationary pump motors to the surface. This was carried out without accident, and in addition to the motors, one of the starters was also brought up. Repairs to the iaco arc being cairied out, and it is expected that a start will be made to unwoter At'ith the sinking pumps, which are now suspended in iiu- winding compartments in rendinees' for work to-morrow morning." The following telegram has been received from the mine Mipciintendent at Ro-?s -. — " Commenced unwntenng midday yesterday; down 270 ipet.''
