FIRE AT AUCKLAND
(II TELEGRAPH.— PRSSS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, This Day. A fire ot Eden-terrace early this morn* ing in a block of two-storied shops gutted the shop occupied by I'lrnest James, a second-hand dealer, and caused much damage to three other stores. A man named Thomas was awakened at 2 a.m. by a suffocating sensation, and found his bedroom full of smoke. He woke his wife just as the door buist open and flames leapt into the room. As half the sinircase was destroyed, they escaped tluough the front window over the verandah dressed in night attire.
