SECOND NATIONAL CONGRESS YESTERDAY'S OPENING.
The second National Congress of the^ Salvation " Army in New Zealand was" opened at the Citadel, Vivian-s>treet,lasfc evening, when a. welcome was extended by Commissioner Richards to the visiting delegates. The function took the form of a conversazione. Tea was served at 5.45 p.m., and afterwards short addresses ,upon the Army's work were delivered by various officers. The congress will be continued till Thursday next. Thi6 afternoon the Wellington City, Wellington South, Feilding, Petone, and Dunedin Salvation Army Brass Bands will meet at Lambton Station at 4 o'clock and marchthrough the streets. In the evening, afe the Citadel, a grand musical festival 1 will be given. To-morrow morning Commissioner Richards will conduct a holiness meeting at the Citadel, and in the afternoon a big demonstration will be held in the Basin Reserve. If the weather is wet the latter function will bo held in His Majesty's Theatre. At 7.45 p.m. an impressive Salvation, meeting will be held in the same building. Other public functions arranged for the remainedr of the week are as follow :—: — Monday evening, young people's demonstration at t-he Citadel ; Wednesday, afternoon, opening of the new Maternity Home; Thursday afternoon, opening of the Booth Memorial Training College.
