POLO TOURNEY THE CHRISTCHURCH FIXTURE

HANDICAP CUP. (BT TELEGRAPH.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, 26th March. Play in the Handicap Cup was resumed this morning at Hagley Park, in favourable weather. Hawkes Bay A (receive 1) v. Tipapa (receive 50). — The teams were : Hawkes Bay— ,). Ormond, F. M'Kenzie, H. A. Russell, and W. C. A. M'Kenzie. Tipapa — H. Acton Adams, H. P. Olney, C. F. D. Fox, and C. R. Campbell. The game was an uninteresting one, being a long procession of scores by Hawkes Bay. In the first half of the game Hawkes Bay scored 18, whilst in the final three spells only 7 were registered. Tipapa failed to score, and the game ended— Tipapa 30, Hawkes Bay A 26. ', Rangiora A (receive 22) v. Hawarden (receive 10).— The teams were : Rangiora A— J. D. M'Cracken, 0. M. Hope, H. Ensor, and A. Fear. Hawarden— -T, D. Davison, E. Davibon/ G. L. Rutherford, and C. 0. T. Rutherford. The Hawarden combination was good, and scoring was fairly rapid. Each, member of the Hawarden team secured goals, and Fear scored for Rangiora. When the fifth spell opened Hawarden wanted 5 to tie and 6 to win, and at the close of the spell the necessary goals were registered, the score. being— Hawarden 23, Rangiora A 23. The sixth spell ended with Hawarden 25, Rangiora A 24. Play was in the centre for some little while after the final spell opened, but eventually E. Davison scored. Hawarden 27, Eangiora A 24. Rangiora played throughout a good defensive game, but E. Davison again scored after a fine rush. Hawarden 28, Rangiora A 24. Soon after this the bell went. Hawkes Bay C "(receive 20) v. Hawkes Bay B (receive 7).— The teams were: Hawkes Bay C— J. M'Leau, A M Shield, ». Price, and G. N. Pharazyn. Hawkes Bay B— W. G. Stead, O. Nelson, J. Lyons, and E. Nairn. Nelson made '•£ good start for his side soon after play began, and .scored 'with a nicely -placed shot. Eveutful play ensued till close on time, when Nelson again scored. Hawkes Bay C 20/ Hawkes; Bay B 9. Early in the next spell tlie same player was prominent, and in a space of three minutes he scored as many goals. Hawkes Bay C 20, Hawkes Bay B 12. The interesting work of scoring was taken up by Nairn, who increased the total by 1, and the spell ended — Hawkes Bay C 20, Hawkes. Bay B 13. Not till about half way through the fourth spell did anything really interesting eventuate, when Nelson dribbled the ball nicely down the field and scored. Hawkes Bay C 20, Hawkes Bay B 14. The C team | livened up somewhat, and ato ne time. | looked like scoring, but a corner hit saved. ' Soon after Lyons, getting the ball in a nice position, scored. Hawkes Bay C 20, Hawkes Bay B 15. Some good play by the B team marked the j early stages of the fifth spell, and Nairn I scored. Hawkes Bay C 20, Hawkes Bay B 16. The sixth spell had not gone far ! before Lyons scored, and almost immediately after Stead, after a brilliant rush, also scored. Hawkes Bay C 20, Hawkes Bay B 18. A minute or two later Stead got the ball well placed, and Nelson shot a goal! Hawkes Bay C 20, Hawkes Bay B 19. Hot upon this Stead was successful at the other end, making the score 20 all. New interest was imparted just on time by Pharazyn scoring with a finely directed shot. Hawkes Bay C 21, Hawkes Bay B 20. The final speil was resultless, the score not being increased.
