MASTERTON ITEMS (BY TELEGRAPH- SPECIAL TO THE POST.)
MASTERTON, This Day. The Very Rev. Dean M'Kenna, V.G., who arrived in Masterton, after an extended visit to Europe, was accorded an enthusiastic welcome from his parishioners. He was met at the railway station by a large crowd, and escorted to St. Patrick's School, whe*e he was presented with an address of welcome from the children. In the evening the Dean was the guest of honour at a welcome concert, which was very largely attended. The Mayor (Mt. J. M. Coradine) presided, and after welcoming the Dean back to Masterton, presented him -with an illuminated address. The Dean, in his reply, thanked everyone for the splendid reception. He gave a brief account of his trip Home and back again, hie address being listened to with gTeat appreciation. An enjoyable programme of musical items was also rendered. The gathering was most enthusiastic and in every way a' great success. The Opaki Rifle Club concluded the season's shooting on Wednesday. The club championship was won by Rifleman A. V. Swanson. Th» rifte aggregate ■went to F. Bolton, who shot most consistently throughout. Hainy weather was experienced on Wednesday, and the atmosphere is now dull, and gives indications of nirther Tain.
