AUTOMOBILISTS AT LAW
m — A recent motor-car accident formed tho subject of litigation in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., heard a claim for £45 preferred by W. Galloway, of PahautanuT, farmer, against W. Liverton, of Wellington. The statement of claim set out that the defendant had negligently and carelessly driven a motor-car on the Paekakariki Hill, with the result that it collided with and damaged an automobile driven by the plaintiff. Mr. ?y T. C. A. Hislop appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. A. Blair defended. In his evidence the plaintiff said that he was driving his car up the hill on the 15th December last, proceeding at the rate of about eight miles an hour. He was on his right side, and was keeping to the left-hand side. Half way round a corner he encountered the defendant's car, which was coming down the hill at the rate of about 20 miles an hour. The defendant did not pull over enough, with the result tha.t the right-liand back wheel of -his car struck the plaintiffs car, pulling it across the road and damaging it. (Proceeding.)
Addressing a meeting of citizens and "firemen at Lower Hutt last evening, the Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bunny) stated that within the next four months an up-to-date motor vehicle would be provided for the local fira brigade. The vehicle was to have an Argyle chas&is, and would cost £4io. Of this amount over I £100 was publicly subscribed, while the j council was finding the balance of the i required sum.
