THE OTHER SIDE ADVANCING RAW MATERIAL.
With reference to the increased prices of tobaccos recently put into force, The Post is given to understand that every tin in the new packing will contain the following notice, signed by the proprietors of the brands affected ; in addition the tins will be marked with the new net weight, l-Joz. : — "The price of aromatic leaf tobacco has been constantly advancing for some years. We have hitherto refrained from increasing our prices to our New Zealand smokers, hoping that the cost of raw material might decline. However, prices have continued to advance, and are, this season, the highest on record. We are therefore reluctantly compelled to slightly decrease the net weight of "tobacco contained in our aromatic packages, and have adopted this course rather than increase the retail price per tin, or reduce the quality."
