THE PORT OF HULL. In view of the fact that the New Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Rakaia will shortly inaugurate a monthly service between New Zealand and Hull, any information regarding the latter port should prove Interesting. A correspondent who hns been engaged fn the commercial life of Hull for many years states, In a letter to 11 Napier paper 1 , that the advantages of the place cannot be too widely known. He continues:— "lts dock system is good, with up-to-date warehouses, cold stores, and all requirements. It te also noted for its low charges, clean and rapid handling of produce. In addition, a new dock with all the latest appliances is to be opened by His Majesty the King in June this year. Hull is also the natural port for Bradford, the great wool emporium, from which it i* distant some fio miles, with cheap railway and canal rates, far below those \ia London. Finally, the distributing area of Hull contains a population of over eleven millions, which means an enormous consumption of produce. I trust, therefore, shippers and traders will avail themselves of this direct communication, so long desired, and which is capable of infinite development to the advantage of itll concerned." The correspondent's statements counteracts, to some degree, the extract from Fairplay which was published in The Post last Saturday. ATHENIC'S ARRIVAL. A wireless message has been received from the R.M.S. Athenic, bound from London to Wellington, via way ports, stating that the vessel expects to arrive In port at about 8.30 o'clock this evening. In order to continue loading under the auspices of the New Zealand Shipping Company, the chartered steamer Cairnross was to leave Wanganui to-day for Picton. She loads wo6I at the latter port, and then comes to Wellington to till up.
