FRUITS AND FLOWERS NURSERYMEN'S COUNCIL FORMED.
Mr. G. A. Green, of Auckland, lion, secretary of the New Zealand Association of Nurserymen, gave an address to local nurserymen and seedsmen last evening on the aims of the association. Outlining the future work of tho board, he said that it was intended to set- up a certificating board to deal with the claims of new fruit and flowers to recognition. The board would be constituted a nomenclature board, and would work in conjunction with the Pomological Board of Australia and the Royal Horticultural Society of England. It would also deal with the registration of all nurseries in the Dominion, the inclusion in the new Fruit Industries Act (or by special Act) of provision to trade* mark any new horticultural products and thus protect the raiser in his right of propagation and distribution, the formation of distinct councils wherever possi ble to assist and advise the executive ol the national body in matters of local or general interest to the nursery subtrades, the suppression as far as possible of auction sales of nursery stock, the establishment of recognised standard grades for nursery stock, and compulsory grading by Government experts of nil fruit for export. It was decided to form a Wellihgton Nurserymen's Council, and the following officers were elected .'-"-Chairman, Mr. Thomas Wangh ; vice-chairman. Mr. George Coopei ; secretary and treasurer, Mr. Edward Gibbon ; committee, Messrs. R. Wall, H. C. Gibbons, W. B. Hardy, 11. Poole, A. MacMillan, and PetteTsOn. Mr. Green was accorded a hearty vote 01 thanks for his address and the National Association for arranging the visit..
