FOOTBALL RUGBY

ST. JAMES'S dLUB. AT A LOW EBB." Mr. F. Alpe presided over the annual meeting of the St. James's Rugby Football Club, held in St. James's Classroom last evening. ' There was a fair attendance of members. In moving the adoption of the thirteenth annual report, details of which have already been published in The Post, the chairman referred to the losses the club had sustained, chiefly through some members being transferred 'from the city. He also stated that last year he thought that the material for this season would be very good, and he expressed tho hope that this- would be the case despite the loss of membership. The report was adopted. No balancesheet was presented on account of the treasurer being away from* town. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow :— Patron, Rev. W. Shirer; president, Mr. F. Kilto; vicepresidenis, Dr. R. A. Cameron and Messrs- R. O. Dagger, W. Bell. D. Parsons, A. Campbell, R. A. Wright. W. Rowe. J. Crew.es, C. F/-Pulley, R. Fletcher, 'W. H. Pollock, W. H. Robinson, H. Hume, J. M'Donald, P. E. Hanley, H. Gallate. W. J. Connor, J. W. O'Sullivan, M. Long, F. M'Parlamd, and R. Dwyer; club captain. Mr. Framk Wright; secretary, Mr. Beddingfield ; treasurer, Mr. F. Alpe; delegates to Wellington Rugby Union, Messrs. F. Wright, A. C. Kitto, and F. Alpe; management committee, Messrs. Bruce, A. C. Krtto, E. Brown, F. Wright, A. Thomas j auditors, Messrs. E. Caldow and H. Drquhart. The appointment of a classification committee was left over until a future meeting" to be decided upon by the committee. The resignation of Mr. O. Mangm was accepted with regret. Last year's oHicei> were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mention was made of the fact that the club was not in such a satisfactory position as it might be, this being attributed to thd lack of interest in the tank and j file of old members. The chairman urged upon members to support the club officials, as it now remained that the club should either go "on the rocks, and pull out," or pull together and bring it up to the standard it occupied some years ago. This club has reared itp some of the finest players in New Zealand, and for this reason it should not die through lack of enthusiasm on the part of its members. Now that the club had drifted to a low ebb, the fault should lac at once remedied, and the chairman hoped that thttn'ot four teams might b" entered this season. The chief question was whether ai senior team could be entered. < Mr. Wright, who for many years has acted as club captain, hoped to see the club win back some of its old laurels. Mr. Kitto considered that the clvb could be put on a. sound footing again He suggested appointing a gymnasium night so that the numerical position of the club might be ascertained. > / After other members had spoken of the prospects of entering a team in the senior grade, it was decided to leave the matter over until the first practice night.
