' In connection with the celebrations of the fall 1 of Orakau, the secretary has received a letter from the Chief Justico (Sir Robert Stout), in which he states ; " I knew Rotfi Maniapbto and some of the other brave Maoris who took part in the celebrated fight : also Captain Jackson and otherß who fought on the memorable oocaBitm. Tile Maoris are a noble people, and the reply of Rewi— ' Ka whaawai tonu mototi ake, alte, ake '—will go reverberating through tho ages. May tho fight of the future be not to Blay meu, but to uplift. They most put on the nrmour of good .living, education, and hard work. Theser"nlone will save tho Maori people."
