CAMP PREPARATIONS
"The man in the street" possibly thinks — that is if he thinks about it at all' — that there is not much work attaching to tho arrangements for the divisional Territorial camps to be held at tho end of April. If lie were set the task of arranging for the accommodation and feeding of about 8000 men, the population of a No. 1 size borough, ho would think differently. If ho were told that he had to do it with a limited staff, and at a minimum expense, having everything satisfactory at the same time (or questions would be asked about it in Parliament) he would possibly resign and join the Wellington Wharf Labourers' Union (old organisation). This, however, is tho task that tho Quaytermaster-GeneraPs department has to undertake for each of the four camps. Already arrangements are being mado for camp supply depot*. Each depot will bo under the charge of the AssistantDirector of Supply and Transport in tho district, assisted by the Army Servico Corps instructor. Camp ordnance depots for tho supply of equipment and transport will also be established. Each of these departments— for the supply of equipment, food and forage, will have a staff composed as largely as possible of trained men and men in the A.S.C. Division. These staffs will go into camp three days beforehand and will remain for three days after the others have gone to clear up generally. Camp cooks who liave been specially trained will be distributed as master cooks, and assisted by others who have not the extra skill in the preparation of food.
