AN ART COLLECTION
A very attractive collection of paint* ings and sketches by the WeJMoiown German artist, Mr. W. Andresen, is at present being displayed at Mr. M'Gregor Wright's premises on Lambton-quay. Mr. Andresen is no stranger to Wellington. He was here ten years ago, when lie painted many portraits. After returning to Germany lie came out to Christchurch about two years ago and stayed in Canterbury for nine months, executing orders for as many as 130 portraits in Timaru, Christchurch, and other places. Again he loft the Dominion and returned to Christchurch last February, and since that time has done a great deal of portrait and other work Although his specialty is portraits Mr. Andresen ha-s painted some very fine antiques, the figures in which are taken direct from life— various Christchurch children being engaged as models. Included in the exhibition is an artistic set of portraits painted at sea, when Mr. Andresen was on a voyage Home in a sailing vessel. An especially effective piece of work is a portraits oi th& "Chips" of tho vessel and another splendid study is that of the skipper. Every picture in the varied collection gives proof of the artist's ability.
