OTAKI, This Day. i A big tangi is at present in progress at Waikanae over the remains of Mr. WhiUi* Parata, one of the best known Natives on the coast, who died in Wellington on Friday last. Deceased is a brother to Mr. Hira Parata, the wellknown rangalirp. In consequeucts of a continual spell of fine, hot wither shearing and haymaking are being pushed on vigoiously. Mr. G. L. Ho.rtmann, manager of the Bank of Australasia at Otaki, is indisposed, whilo Mr. Chainheriair. teller, has had the misfortune to break a small bono in his leg. Messrs. Walton and Taylor are filling the vacancies. Mr. Percy Fieeman, of the Otaki Post Office staff, hus been granted another three months' leave of absence, owing to ill-health.
