PLANNING THE TOWN BELT. EESOLUTIONS OF JUNE, 1911. Councillor M'Kenzie proposes to remind his colleagues at the council's next meeting, 30th October, that important resolutions regarding tho Town Belt have been forgotten. He has given notice to move : — "(1) That the survey of the Town Belt and Botanical Gardens, authorised by resolution of the council dated Ist and 15th June, 1911, bo proceeded with within six months ; (2) that in connection with such survey a detailed plat\ be prepared showing : (a) the areas suitable for public playing grounds; (b) the areas suitable for leasing to private clubs ; (c) the areas suitable for planting ; (d) the areas suitable for grazing leases or for. garden purposes ; and (c) the streets and paths to be laid out on the town. (3) That a report be prepared showing how the matters shown on the plan are to be worked out in detail." The following extract is taken from the report of the Reserves Committee, adopted on Ist Juno, 1911:— "The committee have further to report that they have issued instructions to the City Engineer to prpparo a plan of tho Town Belt showing tho various sections, the state of the gorse on such sections, particulars of leases, and also for a report as to the suitable areas that could, with moderate expenditure, be turned into recreation areas. That they have also instructed the City Engineer to prepare a plan of the Zoo £oc the übs of the committee

showing, as far as possible, the contour of the country and the location of tho various exhibits." The report adopted at the following meeting, on 15th June, contained this clause :— " Tho committee have to recommend that the City Engineer bo authorised to engage a surveyor temporarily to carry out the work asked for

by the Reserves Committee at the last' meeing in connection with the Town Bolt and the Zoo."
