♦ i — CLARA BUTT. TO-NIGHT'S CONCERT. This evening the second of the Clara Butt-Rumford Concerts will be given in the Town Hall, and there is every indication of a large audience being present, as there has already been a heavy sal© of tickets. His Excellency the Governor, Lady Liverpool and suite will again attend. Mdme. Butt will sing a large number of songs, and the programme has been arranged attractively, for it includes various Kinds of music — classical, modern, and popular. Mdme. Butt's chief items are "Rend'il Sereno" (Handel), "The Erl King" (Schubert), "The Fairy Pipers," (Brewer), and the celebrated "Largo" with piano, violin, and organ accompaniment. Mr. Kennerley Eumford will sing "0 Star of Eve " (Tannhauser), with' organ; "Tho Two Grenadiers" (Schumann) ; two Irish songs, "A Ballynure Ballad," and "She Passed through the Fair," and several pther songs. The duet will be "Au Claire de la Lune," with variations. Mr. Murdoch will play several pianoforte solos, and Mr. Carter violin solos. Tickets for the ss, 3s, and 2s seats will be sold in advance at Christeson's. Messrs. J. and N. Tait announce that owing to the inclement weather they will open the doors early so that the public will not be kept waiting in the street; The 5s and 3s ticketholders should enter at the main door, and for the 2s seats at the door in Victoria-street. OPERA HOUSE. " Miss Hook of Holland " was again enthusiastically received by a crowded house last evening, in spite of the inclement weather. For the two farewell performances "The Belle of New York, one of the most popular of comic operas, will be presented. This opera is one of the brightest of all the operas, full of sparkling music, and will be welcomed by all lovers of music. Miss Blanche Browne will appear as the Salvation Army Lass Violet Grey, Miss Jessie Lonnen as Mamie Clancy, Miss Olive Godwin as Cora Angelique (the " Queen of Comic Opera")* and Miss Vera Pearoe as Fifi Fricot. Mr. Edmund Sherras will take the part of Harry Bronson, Mr. Leslie Holland of Ichabod Bronson, the role of "Doc." Sniff kins will bo taken by Mr. C. R. Bantock, that of Blinky Bill by Mr. Edward Nable,. Kenneth Mugg by Mr. Arthur Lissaht, and that of the "Polite Lunatic" by Mr. Jack Cannot. At the termination of the present Wellington season J. C. Williamson's Royal Comic Opera Company will stage " The Quaker Girl" at Masterton. on ,14th October. The dates for the country tour are advertised elsewhere. "THE PRIVATE SECRETARY." The Wellington Amateurs' production of "The Private Secretary" afcthe Concert Chambei, Town Hall, on Wednesday next should be well patronised. The cast includes Messrs. N. E. Aitken, 0. Bentley Russell, P. A. Devereux, F. Eller, G. T. P. Williams, C. Pullyn, H. C. Grout, and Dr. N. Hales, Misses Ethel Lissack, Iris Lennox, Marie Fix, and Ruby, Scot*. The .Wellington Gas Company Orchestra is to supply the incidental music and orchestral selections. The box plan is at the Dresden. "80-PEEP" PANTOMIME. A pantomime at popular prices is promised Wellington playgoers by Messrs. George Stephenson and Alf. Linley, when M'Kay's Royal Pantomime Company makes its first appearance here on Thursday next at the Opera House. Mr. Stanley M'Kay has made a name for himself as a producer of pantomimes, and for the past three years nis company has been touring the States of tho Commonwealth. For this tour a company numbering over fifty people is being brought to tho Dominion.' "80-Peep will. oe the opening bill here, and it is claimed to be full of catchy songs, ballets and marches and diverting specialty acts. The dancing alone will be an attraction, for the ladies of the ballet have all been specially trained, and are led by Fra-ulein Hertlez, a continental dancer, specially engaged for the tour. Mr. Whaite is said to nave excelled himself on the scenery, especially in the transformation scenes, "The Four Seasons" which will be shown in "BoPeep," and'"Under the Sea" in "Mother Hubbard." A matinee will be given next Saturday. Seats may now be reserved for the season at the Dresden. SUNDAY CONCERT. ■ The Wellington City Band's' concert, to be given at His Ma.jesty'6 Theatre tomorrow night, should be a great success. An excellent programme has been prepared. Mr. Hamilton Hodges will sing the celebrated air, "It is Enough" (from "Elijah") and "Invictus." Mr. F. Howse (tenor) will sing "I Seek for Thpe in Every Flower," and Messrs. Hodges and Howee will sing the popular duet "Watchman, What of the Night'" The band's items are particularly good, and include a tuneful, though difficult, selection from "Weber's Works" and a pretty Fantasia (with echo effects), "Echoes of, the Alps," etc. A silver coin collection will be made, with the object of sending the band to theAuck land Exhibition Band Contest; and any help in this direction will be appreciated by the members of the baind. "THE COMEDY OF ERRORS." The Shakespeare Club announces for its final public reading of the session that delightful farce "The Comedy of Errors." The chief characters are cast as follow : — The Duke, Mr. C. W. Tanner; Aegeon, Mr. W. E. Fuller; Antiphojus of Ephesus, Mr. W. D. Gqrham ; Autipholus of Syracuse, Mr. W. Godfrey ; Dromio of , Ephesus, Mr. W. JR. Bock ; Dromio of Syracuse, Mr. H. E. Nicholls; Aemilia, Miss C. Holmes; Adriana, Miss L. M'lntosh ; Luciana, Miss Reading. The reading will be given in the Sydney-street Schoolroom on Thursday next.
