SOCIETY OF ACCOUNTANTS
MEETING OF COUNCIL. A long meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Society of Accountant* was held in Wellington yesterday, Mv.iPetev Barr, of Dunedin, being in the chair. /* The proceedings were not op&n to the jpress, but the sectary (Mr. E. W. Hunt,' of Wellington) supplies the following report :•— , The foll6wing officers for the ensuing ' year wer§ elected : President, Mr. A. T. Clarke (Wellington); vice-president, Mr. J. Brown (Dunedin); treaeurer, Mr. J. S. Barton . (Wellington). Mr. Clarke, upon election, took the chair. Several appointments were made to t-h* executiVe and finance, investigation, examination, and legislation committees. It was decided to strongly urge thft Government to provide for representation of the society on the Senate of the University of New Zealand. The question of non-members of the society practising as accountants wae discussed, and the Legislative Committee wag instructed to deal with the mutter at the earliest opportunity. It «waß decided to take proceedings against persons who had previously been members of the society, but whose memj bership had lapsed, for the purpose of recovering certificates of membership from any who refused to deliver them to the society. The allocation of gmntß to local branches was dealt with, and grama were made after considering the recommenda* tions of the various local committees. A deputation wa* appointed to wait on the Public Service Commissioner fot 1 the purpose of ftdvocAtittg the inclusion of qualified accountant* amongst the professional division of the Service, under the Public Service Act. It was resolved to hold the next annual meeting «of the society at Dunedin.
