SUSPECTED CASE AT HUTT A MAORI TANGI. Itohas- been reported to the Wellington District Health Officer (Dr. Cbesson) that-a Maori child at the Hutt is suspected to bo suffering from smallpox. The patient came from a Taranaki Maori settlement some two or three week* ago. A tangl was held in the house at the Hutt where the chftd was staying, and, as,is customary, this funeral gathering was well attended by Maoris from other districts. Whether they came from smallpox infected districts is not yet established, nor has the case yet been officially diagnosed as genuine smallpox. The Deputy-Chief Health Officer (Dr. Frengley) has issued his bulletin, which is the latest news he has of the epidemic. It shows that “the District Health Officer, Auckland (Dr. Monk), reports a suspicious case in Auckland. Cases are reported at Glen Murray, Raglan County, and two fresh cases at Kaikohe.”
