GENEROUS GIFT

CHRISTCHURCH, 25th June. The North Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board has adopted the report of the Hospital Committee, recommending the acceptance of the offer of a Governor's Bay resident to give eleven acres of land at the Bay and £1000 in cash for the purposes of a convalescent home for children. The offer also includes provision for endowing the institution with an income of £600 or £700 after the donor's decease, three acres to be set aside for buildings, and the remaining eight acres to be sold after the lapse of a certain period to be specified, and the proceeds held in trust for the purposes of the institution. The institution is to be undenominational, the only stipulation being that a hymn be sung and the Lord s Prayer said each evening. Children other than hospital patients may be admitted. Tho valut of the donation is about £3000, which will bear a Government subsidy equal to about £3600.
