DARGAVILLE, 7th March. Suspicion created by the prolonged absence of the chief clerk of the Wairoa '.Stores, Limited, led to an examination 1 of the books. Defalcations amounting 'to several hundred pounds are alleged to have been discovered. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the absentee, who is supposed to have left the Dominion. NELSON, 7th March. The City Council decided to-night to take a poll of the ratepayers on a proposal 'to borrow £2500 for the construction of fresh water swimming baths. The tender of Messrs. Vigor Brown), in the presence of a goodly number of residents. DUNEDIN, 7th March. Mr. J. Mac Master's threshing mill was ( destroyed by fire at Mr. D, Barren's farm, .Arrowtown, this morning. The mill 'was being taken in to thresh a stack of barley, and a spark from the engine set the stack alight, the fire spreading to the mill. The mill was insured, but Mr. Mac Master will lose abbut £150. Mr. Barron, who lost a stack of 'barley and a small stack of oats, estimates his loss at about £100.
