EASTER CARNIVAL

PONSONBY BOYS' FIFE AND DRUM BAND. The Pohaonby Boys' Fife and Drum Band, numbering 40 performers, it has now been definitely decided, intend, coming to Wellington for the Easter holidays. Arrangements for receiving, billeting, and looking after the boys during their stay in Wellington have b >« left in thp hands of tho Carnival Committee, and tho director of the Boys' Institute, Mr. W. J. Bennett. The institute building, in Arthur-street, will serve as the headquarters of the boys during their stay here. Tho Mayor and the director of the institute will be pleased to receive the names of any citizens who will undertake to board one or more of the boys. A note addressed to the Mayor or Mr. Bennett will be immediately attended to, and the name of the boy or boys will be forwarded 'to the host or hostess. There are 40 boys in the band, all of them trained players, who can read music. The band is only one of many such bands in Auckland, and it is hoped that one of the results of its visit to Wellington will be the formation of several bands like it in this city. GENERAL NOTES. The various sections working for the Carnival Committee have just evolved a series of items which, when published in booklet form, will doubtless surprise those unaware of the extent of tho arrangements made. The Executive Committee has decided upon a three days' carnival— -Easter. Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The carnival proper will occupy the two holi» days, Saturday and Monday, and on those two days will be carried out the different spectacular events and competitions which comprise the programme. The programmes, t which will be a sou* ' venir of the occasion, will be retailed at 6d a copy. As the public is not definitely ihformed as to the ultimate destination of the funds accruing, other than the "beautifying of the reserves," in the course of a few days the Executive Committee will be considering a proposal, the re suit of which will be placed before the public. One gratifying feature of the carnival is the ready response in the sale of art union tickets— a ticket which admit* to either morning, afternoon, or evening performance.
