RIFLE MEETING CONCLUDED OKAWA MAN WINS THE BELT. RF.LM. a) J. • CAMERON SECOND. PRIME MINISTER VISITS THE RANGE. The annual 'meeting of the Dominion Rifle Association, ' which was concluded at Trentham yesterday," must surely go down in history as a record one so far as the Weather was concerned. Throughout the meeting the days were gloriously fine, and yesterday, when the 'final for the championship was fired, the conditions could hardly have been better. Of course there was the usual tricky wind, but what better test could one have' of the real shootitig efficiency of the marksmen? Promptitude and excellent management characterised the arrangements throughout. When the men took their places on the mounds some few minutes before 3 o'clock a large number of visitors had assembled outside the barrier, and not the least interested spectator was the Prime Minister, the Hon. W. F. Massey. All eyes were centred on Rflm. F. H. James, who had a comfortable wad on the previous day's shooting. At 3 p.m. the order was given to fh-e, .and James was first away. The marker signalled an "inner." This was followed with an "outer," two more "inners," two ''magpies," an "inner," an "outer," a "bull," and a miss— score 31. Before his second last Bhot was fired; he had the match won; and the news travelled along the line : "James wins." Rflm. A. J. Cameron, the runner-up, made the excellent score of 41,' including seven bulls. Rflm. Williams (Ohura) • came ■ with a great rush, and advanced from a low position on the list to third place, with the splendid total of 44, It was a great effort: Rflm. Roots, of Patea, is very consistent, but his score of 36 was not up to liis best. Still, the ex-cham-pion has a wonderful record for a young man, and when it is known that he had scarcely handled a rifle" for a year, his
