In connection with the Easter Carnival, it has been arranged. that the following bands will play selections at Newtown Park on Sunday afternoon, 23rd inst. :— *Tramvfeys, Waterside Workers, sth Regiment, Pipe, Jupp's, and City. The order of play was determined by ballot. Acceding to the request of the officers of the various women's social, political, and health societies of the city, the Mayor is calling a public meeting on Monday, the lOfch inst., at 3.30 p.m., in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall, to receive Miss Newcombe and Mies Hodge, who will speak on the subject of women's suffrage from the inteyational standpoint. Two youths were brought before Mr. Riddell, S.M., to-day, charged with the theft of a Post Office Savings Bank book and 12s in money. The elder boy was ordered to report himself on Saturday of each week, the father to pay 7s damages. The father of the other boy was ordered to pay a similar amount, and the youth to receive six strokes of a. birch rod. Intimation is given to members of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce that the proposed excursion into tho country on Saturday afternoon will not nowtake place, the short , stay of the Commission in Wellington not permitting its members to avail themselves of the invitation.
