EASTER CARNIVAL LYALL BAY SURF GALA

A meeting of swimmers was held at the Amateur Sports' Federation Rooms last evening in connection with tho Lyall Bay Surf Carnival on Saturday, 15th March, which will be the first function in connection with the Citizens' Easter Cat-nival. Mr. H. C. W. Blick stated that he was making arrangements for a> supply of fancy dresses for the carnival. Mr. W. S. Morpeth was elected to the Beach Committee in place of Mr. R. Reid, who will not be able to act. Mr. H. Jenkinson was added to the Entries Committee. Mr. R. E. M'Dougald. of Aulesbrook's Ltd., Christchurch, wrote offering a donation of sweets for sale at the carnival. The offer was .accepted, ( and the secretary was instructed to write thanking^ the donor, was notified that the Roseneath and Kelburne Senior Bay Scout troops had been allotted for duty at Lyall Bay on the gala day. It was decided to ask all ladies connected with swimming clubs and surf* clubs in Wellington to assist in taking up a collection on the beach. The following Comic Item Committee was elected : — Messrs. H. Jenkinson, Blick, Hanna, Smith, Newman, C. Gamble. T. Shields, King, P. Stratford, J. Stratford, W. Wilton. H. Freeth, Fraser, and Hopkirk. ' The following "bookmakers" for the burlesque" horse race are to be a*ked to act :— Major Hughes and Messrs. C. H. Izard, F. Coira, A. Samuels, A. Jacobs, and Kirk wood. An executive to manage the carnival was appointed as. follows : — Messrs. Blick, Hanna, Perry. Smith, and Shields, with tho s chairman (Mr. J. F. Atkins). t An offer from Mr. R. B. Grange of a livo sheep for a. guessing competition was accepted, and Mr. A. Walker was appointed to manage .this matter. Mr. H. W. Cooper was appointed as sole judge, and other officers were appointed as follows 2— Referee, Mr. T. Ronayne ; judges of beach events, Messrs G. S. Hill, G. Sadd, and R. J. Grimmett; press stewards, Messrs. J. S. Stevenson and W. J. O'Mearerj treasurer, Mr. H. Kirkwood; assistant treasurers, Messr*. Blick' and Bevan; starters. Messrs. T. Brodie,- Henderson, and Leslie; judge of tug-of-war, Mr. J. j Doyle; number stewards, Messrs. J M'Dougald and Collier; mega-phohists, Messrs. C. Lamber and D. Weir. Entries were 1 fixed to close on 9th March. It was reported that everything in connection with the carnival was going along smoothly, but greater enthusiasm of swimmers was desired.
