Th© United States Senate refuses to confirm any diplomatic appointments recommended by President Taft. Mr. Irwin Laughlin was recommended to Great Britain for the Ambassadorial Secretaryship. If he is not appointed charge of affaire at the Embassy will devolve on Mr. Hallett Johnson, aged 24 years, and recently out of college.
