MADERO KILLED AT MIDNIGHT

' The deposed President (Madero) and tho Viee-Piesidenfc (Suarez) were killed 6n route to the National Palace penitentiary at midnight, An official report says that they were killed in a fight between the guards and some assailants who were attempting their liberation. An investigation has been promised. ASSASSINATIONS HAVE LITTLE EFFECT ON PUBLIC. WHAT THE UNITED STATES MINISTER ASSERTS. (Received February 25, 1.30 p.m.) MEXICO CITY, 24th February. The assassinations have had httle effect on the general rejoicings over the peace declaration. Cabinet has ordered the arrest of the military officers concerned in tho affray in which Madero was killed. The United States Minister asserts that the crime occurred as the result of an attempt made by Madero's friends to rescue him while en route to prison, where he and Stlarez were being transferred on the suggestion of the United States Minister in order to secure them more comfortable quarters. Madero was shot twice in the head and Suarez was riddled by bullets. Francisco I. Madero, jun M was born j 18th October, 1873, at the Hacienda del Rosario, near Parras, in the 'State of Coahuila. He became, and remained to a certain extent, French in manner, appearance, and characteristics. Six years were spent in France, and at the end young Madero had developed that democratic and independent' spirit which put him where he was. j He returned to Mexico and took charge of his father's properties, handling them on shares. Later he was drawn into the troubled politics of Mexico, led a revolution that i saw the downfall of Diaz, and has now himself gone down a victim to t a fickle populace.
