BRITISH GOVERNMENT'S 7NTENTTONS. RELIEF~FUNDS. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. LONDON, 22nd February. The Prime Minister (Mr. Asquith) has informed the Lord Mayor that the Government proposes to so provide for the relatives and dependents of tho late Cap* tain Scott and his four companions that their positions will remain as if the disaster had not occurred. The relief funds aggregate £30,000. COLLECTIONS IN SIDNEY. SYDNEY722nd February. A street collection, which was made by several theatrical stars in motor-cars, and_ a matinee which* was given at Her Majesty's Theatre, yielded £832 towards the Scott Fund. Tho fund was augmented by over £200 as the result of a benefit show at the Town Hall, organised by the amalgamated picture companies, with Professor David's assistance. Films explaining tho work of the Antarctic expedition were shown. CARNIVAL IN CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCnURCH, This Day. Williamson's Opera Company is holding a carnival in Lancaster Pjrk this afternoon in aid of the Antarctic heroes' fund. Tho weather is fine. A very'elaborate programme has been prepared. The carnival has attracted a large attendance.
