BE HELD., | (»T TELEGBAFH— SPECIAL TO THE POST,) > } t AUCKLAUD^ This Day: The breaking-up of the Coast defence troops camp at Devo/nport on Saturday appears- to have been attended with some lively incidents ' which' were in marked contrast to; the- good, order 'that prevailed amongst the men during .the week' in camp. 'If is" stated 'that- on Friday night ■ some members of the Artillery. Company paid some objectionable attentions to an officer' of * the Defence ' troops, which was resented by the officers and ' men. • Later, it is alleged, a number of men of variorts companies t made determined efforts to "bag" .oneofvther officers— that is, to put Him in a bag^-and that- On account of their action the officer was ■• placed all night under > protection of, a- guards Id their efforts to v "bag" tho officer some commotion seems to have prevailed and several of the tents -were pulled down at about' 2 o'clock on Saturday morning. In the subsequent clashing that took place one of the men was 'struck* with a mallet byt was not seriously injured. The officers when approached on the subject stated that nothing of a serious nature took place. v An enquiry regarding the occurrence is. -to be opened to-day.
