IN A HURRICANE MUCH DAMAGE DONE AT THE ISLANDS
AN EXCITING INCIDENT. (it wtwwuiw— snout to «ai pbat.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Farther details of the hurricane which visited some of the Pacific Islands on 9th and 10th February were brought back by the Atua. In the Tongan group the storm was particularly severe. Copra and fruit crops were very badly damaged and it is said that it will take two and perhaps three years for the plantations to recover. The storm was also severe at Samoa, where the wind raged for some hours with terrific force. It was so bad that vessels in. harbour at the time had to put to sea to save being damaged at their moorings, The German warship Gormoran, the Union Company's Pnkaki and Tofua, k and the schooners Alfrieda and Samoa were farced to take the risky course of proceeding out of the harbour at the height- of the gale, but Hone of the vessels were damaged.
