AMATEUR ATHLETICS
The entries for the New Zealand championship events, to be held next Saturday on the Basin Reserve, are highly satisfactory, and over forty athletes will be Been in competition. The handicap races have also filled well. Included- in the Auckland team is C. C. Laurie, who has on a number of occasions represented hk province at New Zea-. land championship meetings in the pole vault and high pole jump, and has also several times represented New Zealand at Australasian championships. Laurie has twice won the Australasian championship pole vault and three times accounted for the New Zealand championship in this event With Leh M'Kay (Wellington), Laurie (Auckland), Harvey (Masterton), Giller (the present rsew Zealand champion), and Whittaker (who defeated Giller last week in the Southland championships) the pole vault is likely to prove a most interesting event.
