During' the debate in the House of Commons on the Franchise Bill, Mr. Lewis, Harcoilrt denounced Air. Lloyd George's inconsistency in supporting the Norwegian system, which would disfranchise 4,000,000 working women > it' applied to Britain. The Chancellor of the Exchequer had not hesitated to take their 'insurance money, but apparently feared to take their opinion. He hoped that on further consideration Mr. Lloyd George would be able to adapt himself to \ the principles and practice of his democracy. In response to a point raised by Mr. Lloyd George. Mr. Whitley (Chainnau of Committees) 'created 'a shrprise by ruling, that as the j Bill waa one to extend the franchise, the amendments proposed came within the scope of Sir Edward's Grey's amendment. If that 'were earned, and no others were carried, the Bill would then only apply to male voters. SOUTH AFRICAN PARLIAMENT. ■ CAPETOWN, 24th ' January. Parliament has been opened.
