CARTERTON NOTES
(It TgLKGIAPH— SPtCtAt. fO CHI POST.) CARTERTCN, This Day. The late Constable Carmody had made many friends during his residence here, and was universally respected a& a good citizen and officer. Born at Orepuki, in the South Island, ho entered, tho Police Force in 1900. After doing duty in Wellington, he was transferred to Christchurch, and from there he went to Hastings, doing mounted work. Later he was transferred to Wellington on mounted duty at Mount Cook station. After that he had charge of the Clyde-quay station, Wellington, and from there he was transferred to Carterton, where he had since resided. He had been in indifferent hearth for the past three years, having broken a blood vessel when on duty. Deceased Was married at Napier oomo six years ago to Miss Reedy, of that town, and leaves a widow and family of four children,, the oldest being five, jears and tho youngest t four months. In addition to being senior constable in Carterton, deceased was also Cletk.of tho Court and Inspector of Factories. His father is in the Police Force, stationed at Whangaroa, and he aleo has three brothers and two sisters. They are: Mr. D. Carmody, Inspector of Factories, at Wellington; John, of Inyercargill, livery stablekeeper ; nnd Daniel,'in railway goods shed, at Auckland. His sisters are Mrs. Esplin, of Gisborno; and Mrs". Stowie, of Timaru. The funeral will take place at Napier on Sunday. As a mark' of respast to deceased, tho Magistrate's Court adjourned for half an hour yesterday, tffe Magistrate, Mr. L. O. Reid, making feeling reference to the deceased officer. A fine of £2, and 12s costs, was imposed upon a. Native named Mari Maru for driving a motor-car through Carterton at an excessive speed.
